Jules Murtha (they/them) is a singer/songwriter, composer/lyricist, activist, and theatre artist. They are a recent graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder's BA Theatre Program, where they focused on acting, playwriting, and applied theatre. Jules is currently in rehearsals for THE LIZARD OF OZ: A Parody Musical (ensemble) under the direction of Eric Jaffe in Philadelphia. They also have an NJ-based musical duo called DeepWhine, as well as continue to write solo music under Padraic's Joy. Some of Jules's favorite past credits include: NEXT TO NORMAL (Diana),  SPRING AWAKENING (Ilse), SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET (Pirelli), GAY MIS: A Parody Musical (Ensemble), THE LONG CHRISTMAS RIDE HOME (Claire), and POLTERGEIST: A NEW PLAY (Ash, supporting). In Colorado, Jules wrote and co-directed A BAD PLAY (WITH MUSIC), their first entirely original show, at CU Boulder and Naropa University. They also composed for two new musicals: HOOPS OF STEEL (book and lyrics by K. Woodzick), and A HOT MESS (book and lyrics by Shira Dickler). The first musical Jules composed and wrote lyrics for, RIPPLED REFLECTIONS (book by Nicholas Ryan) saw several productions with La Strada Ensemble in Neptune, NJ, under the initial direction of Jennifer Greenberg and later, Brian Eckert. In New York City, Jules was a part of the creative team and world premiere of the first ever immersive theatrical retail experience, HOUSE OF SHOWFIELDS (Data Checkpoint/Sous Chef). Their New York credits also include a commercial for Mastercard, entitled ACCEPTANCE STREET for 2019 Pride. Jules studied vocal music at the OCVTS Performing Arts Academy with Mary Kenny, and then went on to study voice with Kristin Cifelli at Berklee College of Music. Jules began teaching voice and piano at Lakehouse Music Academy in Asbury Park, NJ in 2016, and continued to do so until moving to Colorado in 2017. In addition to teaching and performing, Jules is also interested in intimacy directing, and will be training with Theatrical Intimacy Education in NYC, April 2020.
